As of my knowledge cutoff date of September 2021, there was news of an upcoming Super Mario movie being produced by Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind the "Despicable Me" and "Minions" films. The movie is being co-produced by Nintendo and is set to be directed by Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Super Mario video game franchise.
The movie will reportedly be an animated feature and is set to release in December 2022. The voice cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.
It remains to be seen how the movie will be received by fans of the video game franchise, but there is certainly a lot of excitement and anticipation surrounding its release.
