Barry Seal was an American pilot who became involved in drug trafficking in the 1980s. He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1939, and began flying planes at a young age. He served in the Civil Air Patrol and the Louisiana Army National Guard, and later worked as a commercial pilot for several airlines.
In the late 1970s, Seal was recruited by the CIA to take aerial photographs of communist insurgent groups in Central America. He soon became involved in covert operations, including supplying weapons to the Contras in Nicaragua and flying drugs into the United States for the Medellin Cartel.
Seal's criminal activities eventually caught up with him, and he was arrested by the DEA in 1984. He agreed to become an informant for the DEA, providing them with information about the Medellin Cartel and other drug traffickers. However, his cooperation was cut short when he was assassinated by cartel members in 1986, in what is believed to have been retaliation for his cooperation with law enforcement.
Seal's life has been the subject of numerous books, documentaries, and films, including "Barry Seal: American Traffic." While some aspects of his life remain controversial and shrouded in mystery, he is widely regarded as one of the most infamous figures in American drug trafficking history.
